A deeply disturbing and painful glimpse into one mans descent into madness. Difficult to watch at times. It does reflect (unfortunately) the times we live in with the mass shootings, divided politics, and expressed anger run amok. It was interesting to hear the audience laugh at what I thought were the most tragic scenes. I think it is a rather good case for the concept of art imitating life and life imitating art. I do believe that J Phoenix was given card blanche to reinvent this character or completely create something or someone new that pop culture will not soon forget, much like Malcom McDowell’s character Alex in Stanley Kubricks a “Clockwork Orange “. Bravo!
