Western science, rational philosophy is to Eastern mysticism, intuitive philosophy on the global cultural scale what the work of the left hemisphere of the brain is to the right hemisphere in an individual. Both need to be merged to know the full picture of reality at both levels. Fritzof Capra's pathbreaking book The Tao of Physics was the first major step in this direction around the 70s of the previous century. lain Mcgilchrist's first book, Master and his Emissary and now this last, The Matter With Things is one more in the same direction if not the second major. In a way it is even more important because it covers much more detail specially related to the mind of Man which he essentially is.
I know the real, satisfying final merging can only come through actual experience of 'merging', also called experience of oneness or of even God but that may not be possible for the most. So efforts at trying to convey the same through word will have to be continued and accepted as the second best for them. And I think Mr lain has succeeded in this to a great extent. I am sure such steps will continue in one way or the other from both sides for to me this is the inevitable goal of the AD era global culture for now.
