Okay, let’s get one thing straight. The first two Jumanji movies have nothing to do with the second two. In 1995, Jumanji was a board game that brought the horrors of the game to life in the real world. In 2017 and 2019, Jumanji is a video game that a group of teenagers get sucked into.
Alan Parrish has nothing to do with the later movies. They don’t tell the same stories, they're not spinoffs.
I found the protagonists extremely likeable and they are portrayed as good role models (a group of teenagers not initially liking each other, but through adventure and experiences learned to accept and love each other for their differences). The character development is great in the first movie, and this movie is a great sequel filled with suspense and thrill. What more can you ask for?
