This movie was a big let down for me. A horror movie with a detective plot twist that left so many questions unanswered. It caters to so many Buddhist terms and symbolisms, oftentimes crossing over to Christianity, that it leaves you questioning even more. Especially the ending!
For one thing (sorry Spoiler alert!)
And I’ll head straight to the conclusion here.
If the girl was supposed to be good, why were there so many evil omens around her? What’s the symbolism there? Her family lived in dark and eerie fear of her; Isolating her in locked chains; Crucifixes all over (which I find silly because the household also clearly had some Buddhist altars as well); And her character had fangs, sharp nails, evil red eyes, almost feral and werewolf-like hair - all indicative of an evil menace.
So if she was good, how was it that she brought in so many evil omens? And towards the end, how is it that she became an enlightened holy child then dies? Was it all because she ate the poison? And even after the climax of the movie, how was it that the main character - the pastor - never even visited the girl? Especially if he was praying/looking for something holy?!
I have more than enough questions in my pocket than the few that I’ve ranted here and I honestly had high hopes in the beginning of this movie. But generally, after freshly watching it a few minutes ago, this confusion was the effect that it had on me. The story plot was just too big of a let down for me that yeah, I just had to vent it out here. So should you have any answers or plot theories to my ranting, then I urge you to please, do enlighten me.
