Spoiler alert (although it shouldn’t matter cause this movie sucks and you shouldn’t watch it)
To put it in the simplest of terms, this movie did not make sense to me. I realize that’s it’s based off of a book, and maybe I would understand it more if I had read it, but I would have to say that what Netflix and the BBC have described as a “brilliant comedy” that is “thrillingly original” (which doesn’t really make sense in and of itself because if it’s based on a book then it’s not original) in this instance I would just have to describe as confusing. The main thing being that the plot was extremely hard to follow. It was laid out to me and shown in the preview as a movie about a toxic spill that ignites and blows towards a town, causing them to evacuate and struggle to find the road to survival. I was very excited about this concept, and also quite enjoyed it…for the 30-45 minutes that it was the plot of the movie. It very extremely and unexpectedly changed directions however, when the plot skips straight through 9 full days of them being evacuated into the wilderness at the end of which they are back home, and became a movie about the husband trying to find out what weird secret off the market drug his wife was taking. Which was COMPLETELY unrelated to the toxic spill and evacuation. And then he finds out she cheated on him with the “dr” that gave it to her, goes to shoot him, shoots him, then his wife randomly comes out of nowhere and they drag him to some underground nun hospital to save him. And then that’s about it. I feel like I just watched the first half of a really good movie, and the second half of a completely different and terrible movie combined together. Overall, not worth 2 hours of your life.
