Beautifully filmed and superbly acted. My problem is that I didn’t get any deeper or more nuanced understanding of Napoleon than I would have by reading a very basic history book. In fact, watching this film is like reading a history book: “First this happened, then this happened, then THIS happened, then he died.” And, sadly, now I learn that there was actually a LOT of very interesting recorded history that was omitted. I’m confused why this talented director chose to do so little with such a big story.
