Liked it very much!! I think some the harsher reviewers thought they were getting a little more serious of a movie. I thought it knew what it was: a fun monster movie. Backstory? Just enough to keep it 90 mins (which is rare these days). Acting? Not great. But thats not why you go see this movie. You go to see the design of the monsters, the underwater suits, and sets they built. And those are great. Fun theater watch!

I think Kubrick would be very upset this happened. First, about 25 mins too long. Editing would’ve really helped. Second, no homage to the original movie (which would be fine) until the last 40 mins where you just cram all of it in our faces? Don’t wanna spread that out huh? Third, it felt really superhero-y to me. Little kid, telepathy, group of supernatural bad peeps. Bottom line: A sequel wasn’t necessary, ESPECIALLY this one.
