This movie remains possibly THE finest psychological drama I have ever seen, mixed with both outrage and subtle comedy. You can look at Jack Nicholson's face and know exactly what he is thinking. He has zero unconscious bias against anyone and just wants everyone to find a way to enjoy life. Not to mention how amazing that it debuted supporting actors such as Christopher Lloyd and Danny deVito. This movie also made Nurse Ratched (sounds vaguely like wretched, or more like ratchet, a tool that clamps down but doesn't let go!) an icon for cruel treatment. Interesting that this movie was released just five years after Reagan signed the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act to end long term involuntary incarceration of mental patients. They just don't make movies like this anymore.
