In this cgi laden marvel movie climate, Tha batman relies mostly on practical effects and gritty down to the earth action set pieces.
We see the journey of Bruce Wayne, still relatively new to his role as the caped crusader. And his growth, from a vengeance driven broken child who saw witnessed the murder of his parents, to a symbol carrying the much heavier responsibility of giving hope to the people of Gotham.
One should not go into the movie, expecting an action heavy superhero narrative. The movie is long and slow, taking time to set up the underlying themes. At several instances it draws parallels to the David Fincher masterpiece 'Seven'. All in all a must see.
