I'd like to start by saying that this movie is NOT FOR CHILDREN. There are several inappropriate jokes and the use of foul language that may not be suitable for children. I personally grew up loving Barbie as a little girl. I remember having the Ken doll, Skipper, Midge, Teresa and other Barbie dolls. I loved using my imagination and playing with these dolls as a child. So my thoughts about this movie are coming from a place of adoring the doll itself. The movie was full of bright colors, the Barbie set was beautiful and pink, as you would imagine. But the content and story line of the movie was lacking quite a bit. I found myself feeling sad for the Barbie character, as she wasn't what my Barbie experience was as a child. The Barbie character had a serious lack of interest in Ken, which was a bit confusing to me. The movie portrays men as being quite dumb. The storyline was mediocre, with a poor overall message to young girls about tricking men in order to gain their own autonomy. I rate this film 2 stars simply because of the lively and colorful visual effects.
