If you are a fan of the novel, I highly discourage watching the film. The screenplay completely mangles the brilliant, tragic, and comedic story woven by Maria Semple. In fact, there is no mystery surrounding Bernadette’s disappearance at all! The opening scene shows her alive and well kayaking in Antarctica. Only Bee and Elgie are left to wonder where she went and the storyline of Audrey is changed completely and that of Soo-Lin is totally dismissed. I was horribly disappointed.
