Although it is a period movie, Tarintino is able to infuse enough artistic license to make it more than just a macabre Tate murder biopic. For me, an avid Tarintino fan, the film illustrated a maturity largely absent from his earlier films. It seemed in a cenmatic sense much more like a Scorsese approach at least in terms of blocking and b-roll additions.
Both Pitt and DiCaprio are given time to develope fully as human characters with all the associated flaws that help to make the entire scenario believable. I must say that it is a joy to purchase a ticket to a movie created by someone who loves the craft so much. I will state here that I think it’s the summer movie of 2019. I wish the ending of the film is what had actually occurred. The one description I think I enjoyed the most was of a buddy being more than a brother but not quite a wife. Classic storytelling from a true master of pulp genre film.
