This movie was not worth my time. The only saving grace was how stunning the movie looked with all of its visual effects and pop culture references. The rest of the movie wasn’t good the story differed too much from the book and the acting in this was corny/cringy most of the time. I understand having to sacrifice some things from the source material to the movie can only be so long, but after reading the book, HUGE chunks of the book that were vital to the progression of this epic, dormant quest, were left out. The problem I had was this is a contest that nobody could figure for 5 years, and it felt like, all of a sudden, they had the secret to the universe and knew how to complete each stage of their quest, relatively quickly. In the book, entire months went by between each key, but again, the pacing compared to the book differed too drastically. If you have not read the book, you may have a different opinion about the movie, watching it with fresh eyes, but after watching it so soon after finishing the book, it really did feel like a disservice to a great story. If I never see this movie a second time, I wouldn’t be surprised.
