Just saw Cats and it was not as bad as I expected. The acting was generally good, the dancing was on point and Jennifer Hudson's performance was absolutely standout. I was baffled, though, by the part where they clearly gave up CGI'ing paws altogether and just left them as fleshy human hands and feet, the final scene complete with Judy Dench's wedding ring. That is where any suspension of disbelief is not only paused but butchered, and where your brain starts to view it all as a distracting optical illusion: are they cats that look humanesque, or humans badly dressed as furries? Overall, enjoyable but vaguely unsettling.

A great if difficult watch which reflects the real race struggle in America right now. **SPOILER ALERT** As a white person, I got to the finale thinking "it will all work out okay, the bad cops will be found out and Brenton's family will get justice". For Jablonski to be given 30 days in jail and the others to go scot free was like a dagger to the heart and then I totally got it. This show's ending IS an allegory for race. And I, as a middle class white person, is used to everything ending well in life so I expected my Netflix story too as well. And it was a shock when it didn't. But for black lives in the US, often things don't end fairly or well or right, just like Seven Seconds. Is it right or just? No. But it is reality. And a lesson that us privileged white people could stand to learn and remember. Racial inequality exists and is real and we need to tackle it because there are stories like Brenton's happening every day.
