I think it’s a great reinterpretation of the original masterpiece so many years later and after so many years has got behind him 😉 . From the perspective of 80 years old and hearing it in a slower even sadder tone with the deeper and weaker vocals to me adds a different meaningful meaning I just didn’t grasp before.
With all that being said… don’t go into it thinking it’s a remake of the album… it’s definitely. Musically compared to original it’s really stripped down. He tells lots of stories and such which I do enjoy and I’ll explain why at the bottom. When he is singing I can’t help but feel like he lives in a small apartment and is trying not to disturb the neighbors.
Why I love the album and his stories. To me it just feels like a curtain call. Kind of like “DSOTM” is some of his best work and he is reliving it at the age he is now speaking of death a lot knowing he’s in his latter years and is mortal. Telling the story of dying friend. To me it had a meaning of literally “Breathe, Breathe in the air! Don’t be afraid to care!” From someone who is 80 or about to be, saying don’t take it for granted, you’ll be here soon.
It’s not the original but I don’t think it was supposed to be and I can appreciate this reimagining of a classic masterpiece.
