The writer definitely has quite the imagination! I do like how with all the movies out there about women being obsessive crazy about the guy they can't have, that it shows how men's minds can & do operate as well. Though it's fictional like all the other movies not based on true stories, in today's age & sick world, never know what length a man or woman would go to to get what they want & still never receive what they desire... You can't make someone want you. The only way Dr. Sands could have Helena was in his dreams, & even then he held her hostage after cutting off her legs to make her dependent on him, she tried to shout for help at times, ridiculed him still & attacked him; to where cut her arms off, she STILL laughs & says "this doesn't change anything, someone will still find out." He finally gets a little taste of what he desires towards when he wakes up, but it's cut short when he's attacked by Helena's boy toy. And when he was getting ready to wake up was when she called out, "wake up I need you I love you!" He finally wakes up, & has maybe some realization that he couldn't have her, She doesn't want you dude, move on! But now she's in the hospital with broken limbs because of his inability to take rejection & "NO" for an answer. I still like the movie! It's like I'd said, glad they have a movie(s) about the man obsessed with (the) woman (en) as it is in real life and vice versa, & about how people are today & the way their mind can operate... It's scary & never know people!
