Saw an early screening in IMAX @ AMC Theaters!

This movie does a solid job at being a stand alone sequel. It has a minor sub plot of romance that isn't overly in your face and does well at what I'd call modernizing the reason for the storm chasing.
They play into the dumber aspects of it as if expecting the audience to be prepared for the worst, and in the end it works for the film.
It has some chuckle worthy moments, and honestly there were a few times I found myself holding my breath in suspense which was pleasantly surprising.
I went in with the expectation this was going to be awful, like a great many movies in recent years, especially on the sequel / reboot front, but at no point did I find myself bored.
I'm glad I saw it on a huge screen in theaters. This is one of the few movies that makes me feel grateful going to the movies is still an option, which is counter to my usual preference of wait to see it till I can watch it at home.
Some movies really were made to be experienced with roaring surround sound and a building high wide view. More than anything I think I'm thrilled it didn't suck, but I don't want to overly praise it either. I think saying 87/100 is a fair assessment, as a natural disaster fan.
Those who aren't fans of the genre may only find it "passing or acceptable" as a film.
