I just watched the movie The Goldfinch for the second time in one week. It is exquisite from beginning to the end. The casting is spot on and the cinematography is gorgeous — striking just the right mood and shading. Donna Tartt’s novel deserved the Pulitzer Prize and the movie deserves several Oscars. The script adaptation is an interesting study; while some segments were condensed and others rearranged, the script stays true to the emotional pull of the novel. I recommend seeing it twice-once to absorb the overall story, twice to see all the subtleties. Movies like The Goldfinch, produced with such care, have become the exception rather than the norm. Emotional and moving, it’s a work of art. Please go see it...it’s the only way we can continue to get more films that offer such rich characters and complex plots. 5 stars.
