Interesting premise - that's why I stuck with it - but very few likeable characters. So many holes in the story, too many side stories. Pretty disjointed, i thought, and i often thought that the writing was inaccurate - people dont talk or react the way they do in this series. Mostly good acting, but the only sympathetic characters were the kid, his kidnapper, and the building super. The good cop was too intense and very morose, the mother was oddly inconsistent in her response to losing her child, and Benedict Cumberbatch (whom I normally admire) was so creepy and nasty - completely unlikeable.
NYC in the 80's is portrayed as a dirty, dangerous, ugly, lawless and corrupt place (I was around then - it was pretty bad but not that bad.) Honestly, this wasn't the worst thing I've seen lately, but it was pretty disappointing.
