Shrini Vempali

A spaghetti western that plays out more like a Freudian study of the two protagonists - a former history teacher relishing the power of the beast unleashed that was lurking deep down within him, and an outlaw experiencing a reawakening of his conscience buried deep in his heart. Throw in a law-enforcer who watches these two men from close quarters and finally makes a conscious decision that he thinks just ... Heady stuff. Really. Great direction. Superb performances. And the music? Out of the world.

While it is an out-and-out De Nero show, this epic - nearly 3 hrs - crime drama gives enough space for other members of the cast develop and define their characters. the only downside for me, if any, is the drawn out family drama between De Nero and a dazzling Sharon Stone. Simply put, Scorsese doing what he does best. with consummate elan.

A gripping crime thriller from one of the best story tellers. Despite its length the movie has the screenplay to hold the viewer. As always, QT gets the best out of his cast.
