First of all, the movie got super boring after the first quarter. The constant dialogue between characters had little to no meaning besides to fill screen time and kept dragging on. Especially when the performances were honestly okay, it’s hard for viewers to be invested when it feels like the actors aren’t putting much emotion into the lines. Someone watching couldn’t empathize or care to understand what a character was feeling. Secondly, the writers don’t make it clear what the plot is about or how Napoleon got to be Emperor in the first place, let alone how any of these events actually happened. Not giving context or background to the events make it hard for viewers who know nothing about Napoleon to enjoy the film. It’s also difficult to point out whether the plot is about Napoleon’s relationship with Josephine, or his significant role in France. They jump between topics so much, it doesn’t flow well at all because you can tell that they tried shoving every important event of Napoleon’s life into one 2-3 hour movie, while still leaving out so much. They should have just focused on one aspect of his life and went from there. Every battle they show is presented in such a simplistic way- it’s mostly just like every other battle scene except Napoleon isn’t shown doing anything of significance?? There is no depth AT ALL. The writers didn’t go in depth with Napoleon’s strategies and lacked so much emotion and historical accuracy. It was above surface level. For what Napoleon actually did, this movie did him an injustice with how uninteresting they made him out to be. They didn’t present WHAT made him so different from the others, and I’m so disappointed that the movie wasn’t as good as I was hoping. The only word I can use to describe this movie is that it looks unfinished.
