First off, I'll say I prefer this movie over the first, but that doesn't excuse the problems I have with it. However, let's start off with some of the positives.
The werewolves were easily the best part of the movie. In my opinion, they were better than the zombies ever were. I wish the movie would've explained more of the history behind them rather than leave it as they're the originals from Seabrook. I would've preferred for them to remain hostile a little longer, but I'm okay with the final product. Now, let's address some of the less positive things about the characters.
Overall, the rest of the characters were fine...except Bucky. If you're looking for more character development out of him, you're out of luck. He basically got reduced to the comic relief. Even though some of his jokes are actually funny, sometimes he can come off as annoying. In the comedy department, the best you're getting are from Bucky and Wynter.
Next, let's talk about the plot. Unlike others, I didn't think the plot was really rushed. I was fine with Zed and Addison's relationship not being expanded on too much as I felt that was explored enough in the first film. However, the plot has one major flaw which. if resolved, could've made this movie a 5/5. The problem is the election subplot. The whole reason that plot is in the movie was because the anti-monster laws were reinstated to deal with the werewolves (not to mention Bucky would've had nothing to do in the movie without this plot). My problem is that the townspeople assume that by having these laws, the werewolves would for some reason follow them. This might be one of the dumbest excuses for a plot that I've heard. Why on earth would the WEREWOLVES of all people try to follow the law. Seriously, it's just dumb. Not to mention that Addison didn't become the great alpha even though the movie clearly sets her up to be it. Of course, Addison isn't completely off the hook as she accepts the fact that she will become the Great Alpha too quickly, which really shouldn't have happened. I feel as though I've ranted enough, so lets wrap this up.
...The musics great.
Overall, I would recommend to give this movie a try to see if you like it. It has a good message, even if the movie as a whole has some issues with it. I would've given this movie a 3.5/5, but since I can't, I'll give it a 4. Don't think of that as a bad score, think of it as a movie that had the potentially to be great but just had a few too many problems with it to really push it over the edge.
To be honest I'd be shocked if anyone read this fully, but if you did, I hope you enjoyed it.
