Hello, Hello I am writing a Review for this game not only because I hope it is helpful for figuring out if this is the game for you, but more so to lay out the pros and cons of this game compared to World of Tanks or even World of Warships.
As a whole, warthudner in my own personal opinion has a lot of content, the ability to use factual weapons, armor and even tanks. It's balanced to a certain degree and I mean "balanced" because countries like Russia, the US, and even I'd say British/France/German tanks unfair advantages. Mainly with Russia/US, there is bias with these nations as their BR tanks are in many ways, overpowered to lower BR tanks but the trick that the company has employed is using skill but also historical views on what tanks faced what. Like for example, M4a1, M4, and M4a2 Sherman tanks faced panzer 4's, Panthers, and Tigers just like with the Russian T-34 tanks. So the balance can feel off but is slightly off-set with shell damage/penetration, the BR tanks can slug it out with other similar tanks of the same BR like with British tanks at 3.7-4.7 having an easier time against German tanks with higher penetration.
Now in theory, this may make sense but in reality it doesn't help the average gamer who doesn't know what weak spots are there and this can cause anger and frustration, plus as seen in many of the reviews, this game is much so "Pay to Win" for certain nations like the US, Germany, and Russia. So this can cause you to have a lot of early game nightmares and that's not even talking about the high tier ATGM's Anti-tank guided missiles at later BR. All in all, I recommend staying below 6.0 or 7.0 to have the most fun, the best BR or tier's to play at has to be 3.7-5.0 or 3.7-6.0. Germany, US and Russian tanks are by far the best, and I went with those lines along with France and Britain. So that being said, with nation choices, you do have variety like Sweden/Finland, China, Japan, Italy, and with the new Israel tech tree starting at 6.0 that I started you have variety. Plus with this game, it has naval combat and Air combat to get you off the ground.
How does it compare to world of tanks and world of warships? Like night and day. Honestly, Warthunder is all about placing your shots to one-shot other tanks, world of tanks and even world of warships is more user friendly while also having a good ability to even out skill. That being said though, I've got a lot of time in all three games, and I'm now starting to swing to Warthunder a bit more due to the diversity and content being added with new maps and nations but I have to stop short unlike in world of tanks/warships because I get so angry about my performance.
Overall score for this game? 3/5, not 4 or 5, but 3/5 because you can have fun and enjoy the grind but the grind is long, the skill level can be a struggle. And it does take away from the fun, but if you play to just one-shot people, don't take it seriously and just want to show off some-skill, this can be the game, but don't forget, there are issues with bias towards certain nations.
I hope this review was helpful and please know, it's my own experiences and emotions I've felt while playing this game, many long game sessions and some interesting tank battles I've won and lost.
