This series was obviously written by a pro-life man. I cannot possibly imagine a noblewoman giving birth to a syphilitic baby she conceived while being raped by a plebeian, a servant. Why would anyone do that? If she had any compassion for the child she would never do that! It makes no sense… There were ways of dealing with unwanted pregnancies. Strangely, it reminded me of a story by W. Somerset Maugham “The Unconquered,” with a very different outcome. To think, Somerset Maugham was more of a feminist in 1943 than the writer of this series in the 21st century…
