Ignore the naysayers and those with unspeakably poor attention spans. Yes, the original is a classic of the genre, and a truly visceral ride. But this is a weird organic film not unlike something from the mind of Cronenberg (and if he was the director, everyone would be lauding it as a masterpiece).
There is a unique creepiness to it; defined in some ways via the 70s Berlin settings. Like Peter Strickland's 'Berberian Sound Studio' it digs at something more unsettling that sits within us all. It's brilliantly photographed and soundtracked, with solid acting performances. Give it your time. It's worth it.
