With the overall movie, I found it to be generally good. I liked the representation of how the panda spirits were separated by the strange circle connecting the realms. (though the other side was really just void) It also interests me how they made the person's hair red. I think Mei looks better with red hair than black. This movie really embodies how crazy everything can be in middle school and how much things seem to matter at that time. I couldn't get over how real the part of Meilin's mother going to confront the boy Mei had made drawings of felt.
What I will say is that the first 6 minutes were pure cringe. Mainly with Meilin's introduction, along with her friends'. Especially when Miriam did the "gauntlet." It was really hard for me to not skip those parts because my eyes burned as I tried not to look away from sheer second-hand embarrassment. If that was the intended purpose, they did pretty well. They did embody the weirdness of middle schoolers pretty well with certain friend-groups. (not insulting, just pointing that out) But, if you can get past the first 6 minutes of the movie (in private), I'd say it was a good movie.
