I LOVED it LOVED it!! The costumes, choreography, sets, effects, and songs were absolutely mesmerizing. Seeing some of my fav actors/actresses as cats was sheer fun entertainment - Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, Idris Elba, James Corden - what a hoot. Jennifer Hudson's performance was beyond belief - I could watch her acting/singing "Memories" 100 times over and still get teary-eyed every time. Was the story line thin? Well yeah, it's a MUSICAL about CATS, idiot critics- not a heavy war docudrama for pete's sake. If you love creativity and would love to escape into a fantastical world for a bit, you HAVE to see Cats! If you don't appreciate great musical numbers and phenomenal costumes, go bury yourself in the Hurt Locker.
