I love history; my daughter loves Nolan. We both wanted my money back. The film is boring. Loud. Musical score attempts to create drama where there is none. Dialogue is hard to hear. Tortured (why?) boy genius becomes tortured womanizing man genius. Claims to have a special relationship with his wife, which is news as no such relationship is shown. The one truly interesting character is his tortured girlfriend, but why is she tortured? Why does he want his brother at Alamo? What was his childhood like? The camera spends hours looking at the actor’s eyes, but why do we care about him staring at ponds and stars? Why do we care if he maintains his security clearance? If Strauss gets confirmed by the senate? Does anyone want to watch two long interspersed legal proceedings? What about pausing to consider the actual human devastation caused by dropping the bombs? Truly cringe moments: the Bhagavad Gita as aphrodisiac and the token Black guy playing bongos at the Christmas party. Nod to 1940s stereotypes? 2023 attempt to give the token Black a role? Several times the film references the $2B spent to create the atomic bomb. How much was spent on creating this plotless film? The acting is great but what can even great actors do with zero character development?
