Linklater had always had a thing for time, and shows better than anywhere else here in Boyhood. Boyhood is a film about life, a realistic and naturalistic take on the timeless coming-of-age story, if you will.
A must-watch film even if only to appreciate the making of it, that alone is rewarding enough. But the characters are compelling and well developed and the narrative is engaging, and the story is so close to real life that you cannot help but relate and reflect on your own experiences.
