The majority of the bad reviews are from those who clearly did not know that this was a musical adaptation. I honestly appreciate that they don’t just call it “mean girls the musical,” because it is still more than that. I personally saw the broadway musical, though, and love to see how they meshed more of the storyline with the musical numbers. It’s like a modern High School Musical meets 2004 Mean Girls. Sure, the music isn’t as top tier as HSM and is really more of musical storytelling, but all in all this movie was a BLAST with so much amazing talent on display!!! The OG film simply cannot be beat, but this is a very fun and enjoyable twist! (Which is how I have seen it referred in ads… never has it been presented as a sequel or “remake”).
