Conversations with friends is the book that absolutely broke me because of how realistic it is, in a sense. Especially if you’re a boring person. We as people are so drugged by the idea of putting on a show, to aim to be interesting whereas in reality people are just bland. The more interesting they appear to be, the more it always turns out to be an act. The book goes on to show how unbearable it is to be alive, to love, to conform to an idea that you’re at a disadvantage to. It’s a pain to watch the version of your life on a big screen. It takes real guts to watch it and enjoy it.
