I don’t even know where to begin. For a show based in the surrealist animated comedy genre, I’ve never encountered any media property so delightfully, wonderfully real. No cheesy giant candle messages viewed from helicopters or dinner tables covered in rose petals; this show really forefronts the essence of true love. Sharing hoodies and plates of snacks, helping eachother through tough times, caring about eachother, worrying about eachother’s safety, watching movies curled up together under a shared blanket, reclining against eachother when tired, having a highly compatible dynamic, everything you might associate with the perfect *real* relationship is there. A mature and realistic lovestory, Star vs the Forces of Evil should rate as THE best friends to lovers saga of our generation. The fantasy elements and struggles with the titular Forces of Evil provide excitement, fun, and an ever-changing backdrop for the characters’ love to grow and flourish. Watching the love grow between the protagonists episode after episode is enough to make anyone positively well up with joy and an urge to love. The masterfully designed and written cuteness of Star and the bubbly vibe of her magic and aesthetic make the entire show feel light and joyous. I wish there were more than 5 stars to give. You (and your soulmate, should you have the opportunity to watch with them) will never look at a blood moon the same way again.
