I believe the initial idea of a man who goes to a game reserve with his daughters and gets in the middle of a war between poachers and a lion is great BUT it was not well executed. I don't know which era this movie is set in because NONE of those villages in the middle of the bushes exist anymore in South Africa. Those places are only game reserves now and people cannot live there.
The plot is vague. Idris didn't have to be a doctor because he doesn't exercise that skill anywhere in the movie. He keeps dreaming about his dead wife in some kind of ancestral plain, like in Wakanda (sort of) and towards the end, it looks like he is actually there with her but not. It is confusing and unnecessary. HE CANNOT FIGHT A FULL GROWN LION WITH JUST A KNIFE, HE CANNOT. That was the worst part of the movie. Also, Lions are very sensitive to pain, he stabbed it a couple of times but it kept coming back (it should have ran off) while before, after feeling the sting of a tranquilizer needle it ran off!?
I wish they could redo this film or something because it has potential to be a good movie. Also, make it longer so the writers have enough time to get their plot right.
