Becoming Leonardo is the best book I've ever read on Leonardo da Vinci. It really makes one get into the head of his thinking and the need to get to the next thing rather than on what he had already nearly finished. His patrons helped keep his feet to the fire, but not in painting but in weaponry and entertainment. I read the book in just a few sittings. I couldn't put it down.
