This review comes from a very emotional and receptive person.
I've seen the movie twice in the movies and loved it.
Totally felt like a little girl telling her mom "look mom, they're sooooo pretty" when looking at the mermaids.
Halle did an amazing job, she has a beautiful voice and and she achieved to embody Ariel's stubborn and strong personality which seemed hard as she didn't talk for half a movie. The new vocal arrangement added by her in part of your world, under the sea and for the first time were stunning and show how great of a singer she is. For looks, I would've loved to see Ariel's show off her iconic and signature red hair but the copper/lighter hair also worked and suit her very well. Also, would've liked to see the sparkling dress in which she comes out off the water in the final scene.
As for Eric, I always thought he was one of the best looking Disney Princes with a well defined personality and Jonah was perfect for the role. Wild uncharted waters is such a good song which deepens Eric's feelings and adds tension to the plot. Halle and Jonah had a lot of chemistry and loved that Disney increased the intensity of the interactions between them. I even found myself blushing during the boat scene.
For secondary characters, I wish Disney would've added more emotion and expression to Flounder and Sebastian. Flounder went a little unnoticed but his appearance wasn't superfluous. Javier Bardem as King Triton had 100% overprotective parent vibes and his performance along with Halle reminded me of myself and my dad. Melissa as the sea witch was so spot on, she did it the way only she could do it, she was perfect!
Also loved the fact that Disney added culture to the movie as in that matter the animated version is plain. All those vibrant colors, the music, and the dancing in the market were so beautiful.
Overall I really enjoyed the movie and I consider that it is one of the best Disney Princesses live action movies so far.
