This movie has so much art, detail, and characters! I love the back & forth between the protagonists and their parents throughout the time‐mess, well balanced with the kiddy and the more unstable stuff. What really has me on the wire is the fact that this is only part 1. Hinted at the very end, Uma tells the viewer that consequences are soon to come. That means, maybe, they'll be a part 2 movie going into how manipulating time will backhand everyone in a way that makes the future situation worse.
I do know that some people are caught up in the fact that the biology of the current and previous characters makes little to no sense because of the ethical diversity of the cast. (Ex. FROM REDDIT: Prince charming from the original trilogy is white, but in RoR, the parents are Black [cinderella] and Filipino [King Charming] ). But why get caught up in that? It's a standalone film, and there's a [potential] logical answer to the example, and that is Prince Charm could've been adopted by Cinderella and King Charm, but the film makers didn't think they'd have to hint at that in RoR. Some logic and answers get thrown out the window occasionally when making standoffs, which can make watching the film or show more confusing.
The other thing, is people wanted the characters to be more involved (having more to give to the story, interaction, backgrounds, etc) and a longer running time, but they were probably already an arm deep in the pocket that was their film budget. Believe me, I want more background info than what was given in this film. But if we want more to help clear up the missing patches while advancing the depth, multitude, and flavor of the story, we need that part 2. Which, based on the current ratings, isn't likely to happen.
I'm also now realizing that some people are likely to be upset that they're making more Descendants' movies, even though Cameron Boyce isn't here to have a part or say in it. I won't say anymore about it myself, for I honestly fear the kind of fire I'll get for even mentioning his name. But PLEASE watch it again and try to see the hidden potential of the plot and what it can do for the next movie. It doesn't make sense now, but it might in the future.
