Powerslave (IMHO) finally put Iron Maiden 'on the map' with HARD ROCK fans hearing "2 Minutes To Midnite" on regular 'ROCK RADIO', as well as seeing & hearing the tune on MTv several times a day for a couple of years. This album, with the iconic tune "The Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner" (A quite lengthy yet captivating 'story/tune'), "Aces High", "Flash of The Blade", & no real 'filler' tunes, PLENTY to make hardcore metal/ Maiden FANS more than happy, came at the best possible time for an established metal band. It helped HUGELY in expanding Maiden's fan base while raising the bar in terms of other artists unable now to simply have a good power ballad & one catchy 'radio-friendly' tune meaning gold record album sales. Iron Maiden, with the Powerslave album, raised the bar in several genres, & nobody could have predicted what this body of work would do for music. An entire subculture was born & grew quickly. It was and is one of the releases that truly shaped the '80s into perhaps the greatest most creative time in rock & roll history.
