Very well-written show that leaves you horrified at all the tragic events the family went through all at the same time. It's impossible to watch a show like this and not feel uncomfortable regardless of your ethnicity/race (I'm African American). Unfortunately, films like these will continue to get bashed because we live in a country that lacks self-accountability on matters of racial oppression. That is why we must continue to educate ourselves on this subject matter and find a way to take something from it that motivates us to want better for people of color. Although I fear racism won't ever truly go away, I do feel that we can do our very best to limit some of it by taking accountability CONSISTENTLY. That means the judicial system, the livelihood, the entertainment industry as well as the field of first responders concerning people of color because these are areas within our society that continue to be plagued by racism. If you are white, my advice to you would be to not take anything from this show personally but understand that you could also learn something from it. Lastly, we have to stop referring to racism and prejudiced behavior within the past tense, because that is inaccurate and adds to the problem. People of color still experience racism and prejudiced behavior nearly every day, some events are just more subtle than others. Just because you personally are not seeing it/experiencing it does not mean it's not happening.
