I’m really unsatisfied by the end result of this game that I bought as the first game on my PS5. The substance of the game feels incomplete, the holodeck shows you a whole galaxy of planets with the different sections and planets within but you get restricted to 6, 2 of which are in depth and explorable and the rest are just story components that are not worth the revisit.
The graphics are great but that is to be expected now with most AAA games so that does not impress me. The controls are confusing and not easy to get use to, I’ve been gaming for 20 years so it makes me wonder how new gamers handle the controls. The collectibles seem pointless and unrewarding but the commando outfit in black is definitely my favourite. The new lightsaber stances are very fun and suit my play style however the use of the blaster stance feels wasted - why give me a blaster if I’m limited in the ways I can use it? It would have been great to use the blaster for puzzles. Most puzzles are just jumping puzzles which loses its enjoyment very quickly when Cal struggles to cling to the very clear pathways and objects, causing you to fall to your death.
Around 4/5 into the game, you have to fight Darth Vader. A very confusing battle which you don’t actually win which results in a character death. Now I struggled with this fight, kept dying and eventually lowered the difficulty in order to proceed only to die in a cutscene. What frustrates me within this fight is every quarter is a cutscene which in most other games would be an auto save so you don’t have to start the fight from the beginning every time, however that does not seem to be a feature at all in this game which makes boss fights repetitive, frustrating, unsatisfying and eventually boring.
By the end of the game, which is really only 20 hours long - a weekend of gameplay - you are left with 2 choices, struggle to find the collectibles or start New Game+ which I’ve always seen as a cop out to adding more content - why add more content when people can replay the short campaign with no real reward or reason.
The game feels unrewarding, unsatisfying and not worth the money. The most I should have paid for this was £35, I paid double that. I recommend getting this game on sale, do not buy full price.
