I listened to "Night Film" on Audible. Jake Webber was a brilliant narrator and brought a sense of gravity and humanity that might be slightly different in the written book. I was totally absorbed and would have listened non-stop if the novel was shorter.
"Night Film" is a detective novel that incorporates the supernatural, the mundane and the nature of relationships.
Scott McGrath, a writer turned private detective, searches for the meaning of the films of the reclusive Stanislas Cordova. He directs horror fillings so horrifying they're eventually banned. The many secret followers of the future call his films "Sovereign, Deadly, Perfect." This also summarizes the dark side of the book. The novel is also filled with magic, love and light.
"Night Film" slides between so many plots it would be easy to get lost, were it not written by Marisha Pessl. She's a genius novelist who keeps the reader on track, entrapped and enthralled.
I highly recommend "Night Film" to anyone who enjoys detective novels full of unique twists and deep excavations of the human soul.
