Oobi is from the same creators as the Wonder Pets. I am the Wonder Pets' biggest detractor so I didn't have high hopes when my kids started watching Oobi on Amazon. Heck, I was dreading it. But... no, Oobi doesn't have the same ultra-repetitive Wonder Pet songs that numb your brain, or the squeaky kid voices that drill into your skull. The voices on Oobi are... surprisingly tolerable, and some of the dialogue (like Grampu and Inka's) seems like it's catering to older watchers a good majority of the time. The theme song is very calm, catchy and not in-your-face. Oobi was a nice surprise, to say the least.

I'm not sure I can express exactly how terrible this show is. The animation consists of poorly animated photographs. Imagine cutting a picture out of a magazine and then carefully cutting out the lower part of the mouth and wiggling it back and forth to show it talking. That's what they've done here, but with computers. The voice acting is obnoxious. Think of someone taking like a baby to the ugly dog in their purse. Also they sing. I'm sure someone at Nickelodeon would argue there's some sort of educational benefit to the show but Josef Mengele would argue what he was doing was educational too. Yes, I just Godwinned a Wonder Pets review, that's how terrible this show is. That's not the worst of it though because while your child is watching and enjoying the show you can't just beat your head against the wall until it's mush. It upsets them. You have to suffer for the duration. And unlike regular TV a different show doesn't come on when it finishes, oh no no no. It goes back to a screen with a picture of The Wonder Pets and the kid wants to watch another one.
