I felt he was implying father and stepmother were guilty and had something to hide. He acted put off because they weren't willing to share everything with him . I think he exploits things to make his show a success and I don't blame them for not letting him have everything. He sounded like the mother was more trustworthy then the other 2. If I was the father and stepmother I would have called it quits once he started to talk down to them
