I decided to give this 5 stars because I was engrossed from start to finish. I didn’t overthink it. I didn’t compare ‘this Joker to that Joker’. I didn’t get weighed down by the controversy surrounding the film regarding nihilism, mental illness and everything in between. I just watched a great movie that portrayed a damaged man, his decent into chaos and his transformation to comic book villain. Joaquin Phoenix was amazing and even though it was a dark film, I truly enjoyed every minute of it.
