COD zombies, The Walking Dead, hell, even plants vs zombies. All these successful titles (and more) exist solely because of this movie. This movie was the beginning of the "zombie" genre we are now so familiar with in media. I'm writing as a 20-some year old who doesn't watch a lot of old movies, but man, this one is awesome!! Although the acting seems kinda funky at times (mainly because how old the movie is and its budget), the environment and the scenery Romero creates is spooky, frightening, and horrifying.
The plot is actually pretty straight forward. Basically it's about a group of survivors who seek refuge in a rural house with the undead closing in. It's pretty simple,, but the way the story plays out is great and very well crafted . We see how the sheer number of the undead influence each character's behavior, especially in times of dire need, and the cool thing is each character (I think there's like 4-5) have their own personality that drives their decisions.
Lastly, the score. My goodness is the music amazing. It is a very creepy and uncomfortable score that compliments the theme and the slow-walking/mindless "ghouls". I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves zombies and horror in general. You will see how it has influenced an entire genre!
