JFK deployed elements of the 82d & 101st Airborne Divisions in October, 1962, to ensure James Merideth was safely escorted into Ol’ Miss! I was in the Pay Line waiting to be paid when it was abruptly shut down & we (2d Airborne Battle Group, 501st Infantry) were deployed to a NG Airport in West Memphis, Arkansas. I was supposed to be married on the 6th of October, unfortunately I’ve did not return to Fort Bragg until the 7th. J. O’Connor Retired Paratrooper
