I think the current average rating that I'm seeing on here right now of 3.5 is pretty accurate. I am a fan of the original Beetlejuice, and I was excited to see the sequel.
The positives:
- The movie has a light-hearted mood and right in the first 10 minutes, I had at least three laugh out loud moments, which is rare for me.
- The actors in the cast are all fabulous. In fact, they are all so good that they leave Michael Keaton in the dust a little, although he still does a good job.
-There are so many throwbacks to the original that are well done and clever.
- The whole movie still has that incomparable Burton/Elfmam feeling to it that brings back memories.
The negatives:
- I felt like there were too many antagonists and too many plots happening. I think if the writing would have been more careful, this could have worked out, but in the end it kind of just felt like a smashed together resolution.
-I didn't love the Astrid character or Ortega's depiction of her. I think it was okay, but when compared with the other brilliant characters, Astrid was kind of bland and flat.
Overall, I do think it is worth the money to see it and envision how the original characters have grown and changed. The highlight for me was the evolution of Delia Dietz which is just as pretentious and energetic as you would imagine. It is also just fun and a great way to start off the Halloween season.
