Visually is spectacular and although the premise of the story is a bit far fetched but the pace is good and the characters well fleshed out. Only one misgiving is that I’m surprised that even though one of the creators is Japanese , in order to perhaps give emphasis to the low status that women have even those is noble families, Akemi’s father and her trusted old retainer keep using pigs as an analogy to women . But to my knowledge pig rearing is not that common during the Edo period as pork is not an essential food unlike in China. Maybe the writers should do a bit more research in Japanese culture and history for the next season (if any) to make the dialogue less “Orientals one size fits all”.
