This movie was recommended by friends as a favorite to watch on St Pat's day. I was very disappointed and it took three sittings to get through it. Good things: Irish setting, countryside and music. Bad things: Very hard to watch any woman of any era being manhandled, half of the actors not having an Irish accent (??), hard to watch a woman being verbally abused by her brother, and this goes for contemporary films and dated films. For the same reason I can't tolerate The Godfather and the like (I'm of Italian ancestry) - watching people being harmed is not entertaining to me, especially when it is meant to be funny as in this film. In addition, it's hard not to be spoiled by the accuracy of contemporary films. Imagine this story being produced now and how much more accurate the inhabitants, behaviors, and village would be portrayed. (A remake might be fantastic!) I am aligned with the two other reviewers who couldn't tolerate the film. - Comfortable in the minority.
