Glad I saw this on Amazon and didn't pay at cinema. Sadly it lost me immediately as Federal Police don't do this sort of work and particularly don't overtake a State investigation. Whole thing was convoluted and reminded me of a 1980's average to bad Australian film. Is that an accurate depiction of a rural township or did the director just have a look at 'Wake in Fright'? The dialogue is so average you can actually predict what the actor is about to say. I won't go into the constant implausibility's of this film but will mention one which sums up the flaws of this film. The accused murderer of his family - and a suicide - was actually clocked on the back of his head with a rock before murdered by the real killer? Really? Did the one local inexperienced cop not only investigate the case by himself but also perform the autopsy? Sub grade film - and sorry to say it.

Brilliant! Beyond football this series considers the social issues of the time which interwove with the question of players being paid to play football. An exploration of class privilege and the grinding poverty of the workers but importantly also reminds us of the growing social reform movements of the time, challenging the acceptance of poverty and an underclass. Many of these movements were driven in fact by the educated members of the establishment. Brilliant casting and direction and might I say...writing. Highly recommend it.
