Solaris is the Russian version of what we know to be Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey and it's brilliant. The film develops very slowly and it can cause the viewer to tune out but you always end up coming back to this film. I love the artistic design of the space station and I love the concept of the sentient planet Solaris reaching out to the humans who visit it. Solaris station is in the upper atmosphere of Solaris but the planet reaches out and develops beings that are part of our past. It's a treatise on the psychological state of human relationships and no matter how far we go, we will always have to deal with ourselves and in this the creations of Solaris did their best to interface with us. Highly recommend watching the film and it's a fabulous film from an amazing Russian Visionary, Tarkovsky.
